The centre of Trutnov is proclaimed a City Heritage Site. The large square is lined by arcades on all four sides, which is unique and rarely found elsewhere. In rainy weather this arcade is a real advantage. The impressive buildings from 19th century remind us of the city's famous industrial history.
The square is dominated by the Krakonoš Fountain, which dates from 19th century and depicts the ruler of the mountains in atypic sort of manner from today's point of view. A significant feature of the square is the Plague Column, boasting an unusual inscription in three languages. The statue of Joseph II. was returned here only recently as a reminder of Emperor´s two visits of the town.
