Rybrcoul the spirit of the mountains

You don't know who Rýbrcoul is? He is a mythical creature who has lived in the Giant Mountains since time immemorial. He has an eagle's head, goat's legs, deer antlers, a lion's body, a heavily forked tail and a mountain walking stick.

He has never been seen, yet every autumn a large town festival organised by the Rýbrcoul association is dedicated to him. Each year on a different theme, but always one that brings together Rýbrcoul, nature and the natural elements.

So if you visit Trutnov on a weekend at the end of September, you can look forward to a town full of animated creatures. You will meet devils, fairies, permoniks. You can also encounter a lashly, wood dryad or robbers who will rob you. You can play a game with the creatures, dance or just take a picture with them. The whole town is literally alive with the creatures. The Uffo social centre, the promenade and the pedestrian zone are all places where there are concerts, workshops, theatres and activities for children.

The festival afternoon also includes an important event, the taking down of the dragon from the tower of the Old Town Hall!  This dragon, which is the symbol of the city, is always hung on the City Hall tower at the beginning of May to commemorate the mythical beginnings of the city.

And because you can never have enough good cheer, you can continue, now rather without children, to the Open Pub Festival.
