Gold mine at the foot of Chmelnice hill
For centuries, a legend about a large, buried mine at the foot of the Chmelnice hill has been preserved among the inhabitants of Trutnov. According to legend, the mine was full of gold, but it was buried, and the place fell into oblivion.
Hüttel's chronicle states that on April 23 (the day before St. George, when, according to folk belief, the earth opened) in 1511, the miners from Meissen began to mine gold at the foot of Chmelnice hill. They allegedly dug a mine, but came across groundwater, which made further work impossible. There was no gold found. After that, the miners from Meissen apparently moved to the mine in the Giant mountains.
